Villa Mag-Aso Elementary School

History

In the quest for enhancing the provision of quality basic education services, educational institutions have consistently aimed to attain their educational objectives and goals. This commitment to improvement is evident in the historical narrative of Barangay Villa Mag-aso. Economically, Barangay Villa Mag-aso faces challenges, with most households relying on agricultural yields. Business activities, employment in private and government sectors, and support from family members working abroad contribute to livelihoods. The recent development includes the establishment of a complete monograde school, situated 4 kilometers north of the city, accessible by various means of transportation. The formal recognition of Barangay Villa Mag-aso as an official member of the barangay list marks a recent milestone in its historical evolution. Originating as a segment of Barangay Hibunawan and locally identified as Sitio Bunakan, the transformation into an independent barangay unfolded in the late 1970s. The geographical identity of this locale was marked by a frequent occurrence of fog, leading to its poignant designation as "Villa Mag-aso," inspired by the visual similarity to drifting smoke. In its nascent stages, this emerging barangay was characterized by modest facilities. A diminutive Catholic chapel was the spiritual focal point for the community. The educational landscape, notably since 1984, witnessed the dedicated efforts of a lone educator who skillfully managed combined classes for Grades I and II. The instructional setting was an improvised nipa hut constructed by parents themselves, underscoring the community's commitment to education in the absence of a dedicated school building.
This early period in Barangay Villa Mag-aso's history reflects not only the pragmatic response to educational needs but also the resilience and resourcefulness of the community in establishing a foundation for learning. The establishment of a distinct barangay and the modest beginnings of its educational endeavors laid the groundwork for subsequent development, symbolizing the aspirations and collective determination of the community. Growth and Development: In 1984, faced with the constraint of having only one available room, the educational journey of the school began under the guidance of Mr. Oscar Balan as the inaugural teacher. As the school population burgeoned, a dynamic team of educators, including Mr. Jaime Compendio, Miss Myra Poliquit, and Miss Abegail Angeles, collectively assumed the formidable responsibility of nurturing and instructing students across Grade 1 to Grade 3 classes. The escalating demand for educational facilities prompted a proactive response, leading to the construction of two new buildings that would serve as vital expansions to the school infrastructure. These additions played a pivotal role in accommodating the surging number of students seeking knowledge and education. The growth trajectory of the school continued unabated, with grade levels extending all the way to Grade 6. During this progression, the teaching approach evolved to address the diverse needs of the students, transitioning from two teachers managing multigrade classes to a more comprehensive setup with three teachers overseeing combination classes. This transformative journey reflects the school's commitment to adaptability and excellence in education, ensuring that each student receives the necessary support and resources for a holistic and enriching learning experience.
The year 2008 marked a significant milestone as it witnessed the first batch of elementary graduates from the institution. Throughout this period, several dedicated individuals served as School Heads in Villa Mag-aso, including Mrs. Liwayway Lumanta, Mr. Narciso Florentino, Mrs. Evelyn Sanico, Mrs. Donna M. Balaresia, and Mr. Jose Aldrin F. Avellana. In the year 2018, a noteworthy transition occurred as the classes evolved into monograde setups under the capable supervision of Mrs. Maria Nena B. Esquibel. This shift represented a new phase in the educational journey of the school, reflecting its commitment to adapting to the changing needs of its students and fostering academic excellence. Villa Mag-aso Elementary School stands as a beacon of academic and extracurricular excellence, consistently achieving remarkable milestones. This transformation fosters an environment where each student receives specialized attention, laying the groundwork for a more robust and focused educational foundation.
