“Chronicle of San Juan Elementary School: A Century of Legacy”

San Juan Elementary School, a beacon of learning and growth of generations within our community has been nurtured for 100 years. Our school has a rich history that dates back to its establishment in 1924.

Originally founded as a small educational institution named San Juan Primary School with a Gabaldon Building consisting only of Grades 1 to Grade 3, it has grown into a renowned institution that is known for its strong community values, and commitment to delivering quality education. The school housed learners from its neighboring community as well as Banahao, Sapa, and Pansagan. A few years after its establishment the school offered Grade 4 level for learners to continue their pursuit of education.

During the 1950s, the school’s Gabaldon building was demolished and replaced with a Magsaysay type building. The school also has a wooden PTA building with cogon grass roofing and no flooring at all. Throughout the years, our school has witnessed numerous changes such as the construction of the Marcos Pre-Fabricated Building in the year 1970. It was 2 years later that the teachers invited learners from the neighboring community to enroll in the schools newly offered Grade 5 level. The institution became a complete elementary school in 1975 when the school offered the Grade 6 level through the efforts of dedicated and passionate educators who strive to provide the best learning experience to their students. San Juan Primary School was then changed to San Juan Elementary School.

In the year 1997, the school was fortunate to have a new classroom building, the DPWH-BOD which was funded by the National Government. In the year 2000, FVR Building was built through DepEd National Fund. It was also during this year that the school’s multigrade classes were split into monograde grade classes to provide quality education to learners.

One of the key figures that locals remember during the 1940s is Mr. Nicanor Perturbos as their teacher. The current Barangay Captain Mrs. Gloria Bureros who also taught during the 1967 – 1980s, is also one of the key figures in transforming the Primary School into a complete Elementary School. The visionary school heads Mr. Wilfredo Granada, Mr. Efren G. Cuasito, Mrs. Moma Leorna, Mr. Dosito Moreno, Mr. Anthony Austero, Mrs. Ma. Jessica B. Corcino and at present Mrs. Girly A. Cantoneros have left an indelible mark on the institution.

Notable alumni of the school have excelled in various fields such as education, agriculture, accounting, health care, and business embodying the school's commitment to fostering not only academic excellence but also character and leadership. Aside from our successful alumni, the school also bagged the following awards during competitions:

From the beginning, the school has fostered a strong sense of community involvement. Nowadays, the school has been making the Community Reading Center more functional and accessible to all. Over the years, San Juan Elementary School has encountered its fair share of challenges. The resilience of the school community, including students, parents, teachers, and administrators has enabled the school to overcome obstacles. Some of  the key challenges the school faced during the 1940s were the bombing of the school site during the war, the now Kindergarten classroom also became a refuge for dead bodies during the communist rebellion, the municipal donation of half of the school site to community use in the early 2010s, the strike of the typhoon Yolanda in 2013 damaged several classroom roofing and the COVID-19 pandemic when the school implemented the modular distance learning. Each challenge has provided invaluable lessons, fostering a spirit of determination and adaptability that defines the essence of San Juan Elementary School.

Our school community is built on the foundation of inclusivity and respect. We celebrate diversity and encourage our students to embrace different perspectives, fostering a culture of empathy and understanding. This creates a supportive and nurturing environment where every student feels valued and empowered.

As we look towards the future, San Juan Elementary School remains committed to providing a holistic education that prepares our students for success in all aspects of life. We strive to continue our legacy of excellence, nurturing young minds and shaping future leaders.
