History

Preservation of the Classical History of the School and Its Existence: (1950- Present)

San Agustin Elementary School of Baybay 8 District in San Agustin, Baybay City, Leyte is situated 15-kilometer north portion away from the heart city with a total land area of 5,254 square meters and located along the national highway near the Roman Catholic Church of St. Agustine. It is three kilometers from the Visayas State University (VSU). And bounded to the northern part of Ormoc City. The school is 4 kilometers to the Cluster District Office and 15 kilometers to the Department of Education -Baybay City Division Office.

During this period of 1950-1960 Barangay San Agustin embarked on a journey to nurture young minds by establishing Primary Grades 1 and 2, Grades 3 and 4. These budding scholars gathered for their lessons in various old houses scattered across the barangay. It was until 1965 that a turning point was reached built a three permanent building occupied by the learners from Grades 1 to 6. The school was completed to a complete elementary in 1965 when the Parent Teachers Association organized to asking building and teachers to accommodate learners in all grades from Garde 1 to Grade 6. The school had a population of 124 pupils enrolled by the time the school was completed into elementary.

As progress continued, 1970 witnessed the construction of building #2, a Marcos Type structure. This addition included three more permanent classrooms, each with a standard floor area. These classrooms boasted concrete walls and flooring, iron doors, window bars, and the absence of ceilings. The most significant milestone arrived after 35 years of diligent work, as San Agustin Elementary School achieved its status as a complete elementary institution. At this, the school site was built four additional
classrooms to occupy the total of learners enrolled in the year 2005 to 2010. Vulnerable to disasters like typhoons, floods and earthquakes, it doesn’t have abundant source of drinking water. It has a complete installation of electricity through. The school is most accessible for any kind of land transportation.
It has new Home Economics Building donated by Helft Uns Leben E.V. Rhein Zeitung Germany and presently used as faculty room, function room and feeding room in 2010 to 2015. At present the said building is occupied by the School Head and Administrative Assistant (ADAS) Office. In 2012, a mini school gym was constructed funded by the Parents Teachers Association under the leadership of Mrs. Luvizminda L. Cagande, a Head Teacher III at the time.

In 2022, the Parents Teachers Association constructed a concrete pergola with shed, mini canteen, school stage ceiling and painting and repainting of all school amenities which was funded by the Parents Teachers Association proceeds of Little and Master Valentines. Despite the 15 kilometers separating the school from the municipal center, the dedication and perseverance of its educators and administrators remained unwavering.
Throughout its journey, San Agustin Elementary School was guided by a succession of capable leaders. These stalwarts include Mr. Eutequio Napoles, Mr. Benjamen Cala, Dr. Nerissa T. Arayan, Mrs. Maria Teresa P. Rabanos, Mrs. Luvizminda L. Cagande, Mrs. Pilar Lua, Mr. William I Sapiler, Mrs. Frolomea Narra T. Taniza, Mrs. Hilda F. Escasinas and currently, Mr., Victorino R. Ormillada. Their collective efforts have left an indelible mark on the school's history, shaping it into an institution of educational excellence.

San Agustin Elementary School actively engages in community involvement through its strong linkages with the barangay council and other stakeholders. Additionally, San Agustin Elementary School takes pride in its active participation in various community activities. Whether it's local festivals, clean-up drives, or health campaigns, the school enthusiastically contributes to the betterment of the community. Through these initiatives, the school not only instills a sense of unity among its students but also plays a vital role in the overall development and well-being of the community it serves. San Agustin Elementary School has undergone significant challenges and transformation over time. In the past, the school faced the issue of frequent flooding, which posed a safety risk for the learners. Additionally, the buildings were in a dilapidated state, further compromising the learning environment. These conditions hindered the school's ability to provide a conducive educational experience for its students. However, the present situation showcases a remarkable transformation for San Agustin Elementary School. It has become a beneficiary by Helft Uns Leben E. V. Rhein Zeitung Germany and presently used as Office of the School Head and Administrative Assistant and Feeding are of the SBFP recipients. 

San Agustin Elementary School stands as an actively engaged institution with strong linkages to the barangay council and other stakeholders. The school actively participates in community activities, demonstrating its commitment to the holistic development of its learners and the betterment of the community. Through its collaborative efforts and active involvement, San Agustin Elementary School continues to make a positive impact on the lives of its learners and the wider community it serves.
