History
Plaridel National High School, located in Baybay City, Leyte, is a well-known educational institution that has been providing quality education for over five decades. Established in 1966-1967, the school started its journey with only 35 firstyear students. However, over the years, it has grown significantly and is now one of the ten nationalized high schools in the country, offering both junior and senior high
school education. Situated 15 kilometers away from Baybay City, Leyte, the school is surrounded by various barangays, primarily known for farming and fishing activities. The community also has some individuals engaged in small-scale entrepreneurship, including carpentry, bag making, mat weaving, and multi-cab driving. Additionally, there are professionals in the barangay, such as teachers, doctors, engineers, and nurses.
Plaridel National High School has experienced a fluctuation in student enrolment in recent years. While the student population has increased over the last five years, the enrolment has decreased in the school year 2023-2024. The school is composed of a principal, a significant number of teachers, and a few non-teaching staff. The senior high department offers two tracks, namely, the Academic Track specializing in Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMMS) and the Technical Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) Track with three major areas of specialization. The school also has functional facilities, including a Computer Laboratory, Science Laboratory, E-classroom, School Library, Covered Court, TVL Home Economic Laboratory Building, Automotive Servicing Laboratory, and classrooms.
Students come not only from the surrounding barangays but also from nearby towns, such as Maslug, Guadalupe, and Maitum. The school can be reached through various modes of transportation, such as bicycle, pedicab, multi-cab, motorcycle, and bus services. Moreover, there are other high schools serving the catchment areas, such as Tahud National High School, Bitanhuan NHS, Baybay National High School, Franciscan College of the Immaculate Conception (FCIC), and Visayas State University (VSU). Plaridel National High School is a standout school that has been highly supported by various organizations over the years, including the SPTA Organization, Alumni Organization, Barangay Council, School Governance Council, and other internal and external stakeholders. The school provides quality education through its competent teaching and non-teaching staff, safe and motivating environment, good governance of the administrators, active and passionate students, and fully equipped school facilities.
The school's ultimate goal is to ensure that no child is left behind, and it continuously performs its best to provide a high standard of teaching and learning. Plaridel National High School is committed to achieving its vision of becoming a center of excellence in education, where students are molded to become responsible citizens who contribute positively to their communities and the nation as a whole.
