Pangasugan Elementary School

History

Pangasugan Elementary School is a monograde elementary school located in Barangay Pangasugan, Baybay City, Leyte. The school is near the densely vegetated, very steep, and has a remarkable number of plant and animal species, Mount Pangasugan. It also has a picturesque view of the Camotes Sea on the west. These features provide a good environment for learning. Pangasugan Elementary School, previously named Pangasugan Community School, was established in 1960. It has a total land area of about 8,908 sq. ft. m. which was donated by the Moraza family. It is situated on top of a hill, with 108 steps of stairs to go up before arriving at school. It is approximately 3 kilometers away from Baybay 7 District Office from the city proper and is accessible by any means of land transportation. Upon its establishment, the school only offered Grades 1 to 2, but every year, another grade level was added until the pioneering batch graduated in 1965. The school’s growth and development were all possible because of the dedication and support of the barangay officials, teachers, and other stakeholders to provide accessible education to the children in the community. Over the years, the school grew from having limited facilities to having five buildings, which include a two-room Bagong Lipunan, a DPWH onestandard-sized classroom, a three-room Marcos Type building, a two-room DepEd constructed building, and a one-room PTA constructed building. There are 9 existing academic classrooms, of which 7 are utilized as classrooms for kindergarten to grade 6 classes. One is used for home economics, while the other is a 2-in-1 room that is utilized as the classroom and office of the principal. Pangasugan Elementary School also made significant strides in extracurricular activities. Federico Altivo’s efforts propelled the school to achieve School-Based Management Level 3 in 2020. The school also actively
takes part in the different activities of the Department of Education and barangay. It takes pride in its strong community bonds and linkages. The Barangay Council, parents, and various external stakeholders form a supportive network that contribute to the holistic development of our students. This collaborative spirit ensures a harmonious relationship between the school and the community, making Pangasugan Elementary School a favorable and a better place for learning Notwithstanding obstacles like its hilltop setting, the poor socioeconomic condition of our pupils’ families, and other factors, Pangasugan Elementary School is unwavering in its commitment to upholding the tradition of shaping the next generation of leaders. We work together to provide a place that supports each student's academic, social, and personal success.
