Mahayahay Elementary School

History

Mahayahay Elementary School, where education meets the tranquil embrace of nature. Nestled in an agricultural expanse amidst the 92 barangays of the city of Baybay, our school enjoys a picturesque setting near a flowing river and vast rice fields, providing a serene environment for learning. Established in 1978, Mahayahay Elementary School started its journey as a primary school with a solitary teacher, offering education from grade 1 to grade 3. However, in 1990, the campus faced a pivotal moment as it was relocated to the heart of the community due to the destructive aftermath of a typhoon Roofing, which left the school with a damaged classroom that cannot be useful anymore.

Over the years, Mahayahay Elementary School has experienced substantial growth and development. In 2013, it evolved into a complete elementary institution, adopting a multigrade system from kindergarten to grade 6, and was managed by a dedicated team of three permanent regular teachers and one volunteer
kindergarten teacher. Two additional classrooms were constructed in the same year to accommodate the expanding student body, with another building erected in 2016 to house the kindergarten class.

The school owes its success to influential figures such as Rosario T. Sanchez, the first teacher, and Mr. Dosito Moreno, the inaugural School Head. Milagros Morquianos, who served the school from the beginning of her teaching career until retirement, played a pivotal role. Furthermore, Rogelio B. Cagol
initiated Project MILA in 2023, which led to the successful purchase and acquisition of the school site.
Mahayahay Elementary School has not only excelled academically but has also made significant strides in extracurricular activities. Lerma Oquias' efforts propelled the school to achieve School-Based Management Level 3 at both regional and division levels in 2016 and 2018. The school takes pride in being the champion in Kab scouting and is recognized as the best implementer of various programs and
projects, including Gulayan sa Paaralan, Project MILA, SBM WinS and the Values Restoration Program.

Our commitment to community involvement is reflected in our participation in the annual fiesta, collaboration with the Barangay Anti-Drug Committee, engagement in community anti-VAWC activities, and the initiation of feeding programs. Despite facing challenges, such as four far-setio locations on mountain tops, considerable home-school distances, and the low economic status of our students' families, Mahayahay Elementary School remains steadfast in its mission to continue the legacy of molding the youth. Together, we strive to create an environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and personally. Welcome to a school that goes beyond education—it's a community dedicated to shaping a brighter future.
