Unveiling the Legacy: Exploring the Vibrant History of Kansungka Elementary School

Kansungka Elementary School was founded in 1969. It is located in the northeast part of Baybay City, Leyte and about seven (7) kilometer away from the city. It is at the foot of the mountain where it is surrounded by the Kansungka, Gacat and Kiga rivers in the northeast part. It is an institution of learning which caters always the safety and protection of the learners in the school and will help all recipient to be safe at all means. Moreover, like every educational institution Kansungka ES wishes to provide safe and better place for learners to express their knowledge, talents and skill for a holistic development of every learner. It is of utmost importance that to succeed in every possible way, the school has specific goals and targets, realistic plans with appropriate strategies and resources that can sustain the school in order to serve its clientele. Kansungka Elementary School is one of the schools which aspire to produce learners that are equipped with the necessary basic skills and quality education.

Kansungka Elementary School was established in the year 1969 and began its journey as a multigrade institution. During its formative years, it played a crucial role in shaping the educational landscape for the youth in the area with the noble vision of providing quality education to learners of Brgy. Kansungka, Baybay City, Leyte. Its founding was driven with the determination of the late Brgy. Chairperson Restituto Bajora Sr. who initiated and conveyed the barrio people to purchase the 7500 sq. m. for school site purposes from Marcelino Alkuino and Manuel Alkuino the son of late Flaviano Alkuino, the lot owner just to create a cultivating educational environment that would empower learners to thrive for better future. That led to the creation of the school. The early years were marked by insurgency period which almost led to the closure of the school for the barangay was manifested with rebels and only few folks were left residing the barangay.

Since its foundation, Kansungka Elementary School has witnessed tremendous growth and development. The school’s commitment to academic excellence and holistic education has propelled to new heights. Significant milestones, such as Outstanding Fiscal Management, Outstanding Gulayan sa Paaralan Implementer, Best in Thorough Implementation of the School-Based Feeding Program(SBFP) and best practices during the Inter-Agency Progress monitoring on the School-Based Feeding Program, District winner in Tell in Tandem Research-Based Interactive Story Telling Contest, Best Implementer of Values Restoration Program and School-Based Management(SBM) level 2 with the continuous and incessant support from both internal and external stakeholders. Throughout its history, Kansungka Elementary School has been fortunate to have remarkable individuals who have shaped its character and success. The visionary school heads in the person of Ms. Pamela P. Montejo who is now the principal of Marcos Elementary School, Ms. Frolomea Narra T. Taneza the current DIC of Baybay 2 District, Ms. Rowena T. Ibo, the principal of Maslug Elementary School, Mr. Evelardo Pana and the retired Ms. Moma M. Leorna, they have left an incredible mark on the school history. Their unwavering commitment to learners’ welfare, innovative teaching methods, and passion for education have been instrumental in shaping the lives of countless learners through the years.

Academic excellence lies at the heart of Kansungka Elementary School’s mission. The school has consistently strive to provide students with a strong educational foundation. Noteworthy achievements, including the dedication and hard work of our students and faculty have borne fruit in various achievements. In 2022, our school proudly emerged as has been recognized as an Outstanding Gulayan Implementer, highlighting our commitment to holistic education and was visited by national validators. All these demonstrate the commitment of both students and teachers. Moreover, beyond academics Kansungka Elementary School encourages a thriving At Kansungka Elementary School, community involvement is deeply ingrained in its values. The school actively engages with the local community through various initiatives. Partnerships with community organizations, volunteer projects, and social impact on programs with the utilization of Project SWIM-K have fostered a sense of social responsibility among students, instilling in them the importance of giving back and making a positive difference.

Over the years, Kansungka Elementary School has encountered its fair share of challenges. The resilience of the school community, including students, parents, teachers, and administrators, has enabled the school to overcome obstacles. Some of the key challenges were poverty, economic uncertainty due to rising-up of insurgency. Each challenge has provided invaluable lessons, fostering a spirit of determination and adaptability that defines the essence of Kansungka Elementary School. As we look back on our journey, we take pride in the collective efforts that have allowed us to conquer these obstacles, and we remain committed to embracing future challenges with the same resilience and determination. The rich history of Kansugka Elementary School is a testament to unwavering dedication to education, the tireless efforts of its educators and the remarkable achievements of its learners. From its modest beginnings, Kansungka Elementary School has blossomed into a vibrant public elementary school that has played a vital role in shaping young minds and fostering a love for learning. The milestones reached academic excellence and deep-rooted community involvement which exemplify the core values that have propelled Kansungka Elementary School to humble greatness. Moreover, all the above-mentioned school principals have gradually done reforms gradually transforming the school’s improvement in terms of access, quality and governance leading the school in achieving its educational goals through their profound leadership that brought laudable reform in terms of improving the physical plant of the school, coaching and mentoring the teaching force and most of all improving learners’ academic performance. They endeavored making progress in the school both physical and academics utilizing the manpower and skills of the stakeholders likewise financial resources of external stakeholders for support guided by the school’s vision-mission and continuous improvement. Being the current principal I do adhere and continue the school’s commitment on the governance towards achieving mastery of competencies in an organized and effective system for the benefit of all stakeholders-the teaching and non-teaching personnel most especially for the betterment of the learners.

Moreover, another milestone occurred during the SY 2020-2021, 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 despite the sudden existence of the global pandemic COVID-19, the transformation of the old school facilities came into realization which started with the installation of new face of the school’s office, repair of school stage, installation of handwashing facilities, school landscaping and beautification, construction of pathways, which until now the school is still in its progress of development and hopefully after all the physical facilities’ improvement, academic excellence will pave the way in providing quality learning and produce quality learners. Likewise, to a better, safer and more conducive learning environment for all Kansungka ES learners.
