History
The school is situated in the heart of Barangay Guadalupe, Baybay City, Leyte, near a river and coastline, and is affectionately known by locals as "UTOD." It is located approximately two (2) kilometers from the District Office and eight (8) kilometers from the Division Office City of Baybay. The original Elementary School was established in January 1, 1958. It was constructed using light materials, specifically nipa, bamboo, and coconut lumber. However, due to the inability of these materials to withstand adverse conditions, classes were often relocated to any available vacant structures in the community. Most frequently, teachers utilized the chapel as a makeshift classroom.
During that time, the school functioned as a combination primary school, offering only Grades 1 to 4, and was staffed by two teachers: Mrs. Laplana for Grades 1 and 2, and Mr. Comandante for Grades 3 and 4. Students continued their education from Grade 5 to 6 at Gabas Elementary School to complete their elementary level. Guadalupe Elementary School occupies a total land area of 6,576 square meters under the ownership of LGU Baybay, providing ample space for buildings and other structures. In 1969, Guadalupe Elementary School expanded to offer complete grade levels from 1 to 6, categorized as monograde, and was assigned a school ID of 121137. Concrete school buildings such as Bagong Lipunan and Marcos Type were constructed to accommodate the growing number of students.
As enrollment continued to rise, LGU Baybay constructed additional concrete school buildings, and an additional building with two (2) classrooms was donated by Sen. Franklin Drilon through the Chinese Chamber of Commerce. Initially, the school lacked a perimeter fence, but through the efforts of school administrators, stakeholders, and the community, a concrete fence was erected around the school premises. Recently, the school received a Mini Gym funded by LGU Baybay City, through the collaborative efforts of the Local LGU (Brgy. Guadalupe, Baybay City, Leyte) and Guadalupe ES Personnel. The structure was valued at approximately P2,500,000.00 and was aimed at benefiting the school children as the topmost priority. Guadalupe Elementary School alumni, along with other school-related organizations/associations, continue to provide support for the betterment of the school and its pupils.
