History
Barangay Caridad is a progressive community with a vast lot area, wide rice fields, majestic view of the mountains, and a pristine beach. With such natural beauty from the nature, no wonder that our school, Caridad National High School was established. Caridad NHS is situated along the highway which is accessible for the students who live in the barrio, and also to students who live within the catchment area. Our institution serves as blessing to all the locals in Caridad since the barangay is approximately 25km distant from the City proper by road travel.
In the year 1973, Caridad Barangay High School was formally and officially established. But before it was put up into existence, there was already a private school existing in the barangay, owned and operated by the barangay captain, Rev. Fr. Vicente Dayagbil III, who was a parish priest of the Philippine Independent Church. He found it difficult to run the said school and was challenged by the turn out of events so he has decided to sell it to the barangay at Php5,000.00 only. All the properties therein such as books, tablet chairs, chalkboards and laboratory apparatus, were turned-over to Mr. Gregorio E. Basalo the principal of the Mother High School which is Baybay National High School.
In its first year of operation the four curricular years were already complete. Since there were four classes, there were also four teachers namely: Mrs. Rebecca P. Halicic; Mrs. Thelma A. Bertos, Mrs. Conchita Tidoy and Mrs. Juanita M. Pernito. They were under the leadership of Mrs. Ezperanza P. Cala, the principal of Caridad Elementary School, designated as the assistant principal of Caridad Barangay High School. The students were housed in the elementary classrooms since there were no classrooms yet for the high school students.
The school became more competitive and reliable when the Senior High School Program was implemented in year 2016, Academic Track and TVL Track were the two tracks offered. Under the Academic Track was General Academic Strand, and in TVL Track were Cookery NCII, Caregiving NCII, and SMAW NCI & NCII. School facilities and amenities were profoundly evident, just like the SMAW Laboratory, Cookery Laboratory, and two 2-storey building for Grades 11 and 12 students. In year 2018, the application for additional strand offerings was approved, and now for Academic Track we have added Accountancy Business and Management and Humanities and Social Sciences, in TVL Track we added ICT Computer Systems Servicing NCII. To aid the learning outcomes of the SHS students, laboratory equipment and materials were available for utilization especially for honing their skills in the chosen strand.
Caridad NHS as an institution has been grateful to be part of the community that upholds proper values and uplifts spiritual aspects of the learners. Most Rev. Valiant O. Dayagbil, Metropolitan Archbishop at Eastern Visayas Independent Catholic who happen to be an alumnus of Caridad NHS way back. Another most influential individual who is a local citizen in Brgy. Caridad, and is also one of the people behind the success of Caridad NHS land titling, Hon. Felimon F. Avila who is now the 5th City Councilor of Baybay. As of the moment, the teaching force of Caridad National High School is fortunate for the school has its own permanent and original land title, the school is a zone of peace and security.
The school has boosted lots of participation in academic and lots of improvement in non-academic competitions that were engraved as remarkable achievements. The school proudly emerged as Binaybayon champion for two consecutive years, consistent champion for Sepak Takraw in the field of Sports. Due to the remarkable performance of our athletes, they emerged as champion for EVRAA and finally reached to the Palarong Pambansa several times. In addition, our school has consistently qualified to compete in the Regional level (RSPC) way back 2016 and in 2019 in the National level in the field of Journalism. Truly, the school has accomplished a lot due to the hard work and dedication manifested by our teachers. Thus, the school is producing competitive students imbued with the essential knowledge and skills of productive citizens of the community.
The involvement of the school personnel is not only limited on the four walls of the classroom. Our school and the teaching force are actively engaging in the different community activities. Such as Coastal Clean Up Drive and Tree Planting which relevant to the revitalization of the environment. Barangay Fiesta Celebration, Alumni Homecoming to strengthen social interaction and smooth interpersonal relationship. Trainings and Seminars relevant to women empowerment. This way, we are promoting partnership and connection to help increase the support of the internal and external stakeholders.
Every school year is a chapter of challenges and obstacles in regards to teaching and learning process. The aim of our school is to provide quality basic education, but how can we do it if there are series of issues and concerns present in the process? One of which is dropout rate or the students are no longer participating in school because of various reasons. But whatever reason is it, our school teaching force have provided differentiated instructions and learning interventions just for the students to cope up with the lessons. This kind of practice shows inclusivity and sensitivity towards the learning gap of our learners.
Caridad NHS will remain steadfast in facing struggles and problems relevant to the implementation of K-12 Curriculum in the Department of Education. As a competitive training ground of the youth in the community, the school aims to produce nationally and globally determined alumni whose values oriented. While the school aspires for education excellence, Caridad NHS as an institution will function as an agent of change in transforming the mind of the young learners to become empowered leaders in the future. With this ability, every individual will develop their skills and aptitudes in reading, speaking, and comprehension. Elevate the sense of responsibility to the community and environment.
